Gluten-free restaurant review: Bill's | Newbury

Bill's is a British restaurant and bar chain founded by Bill Collison in 2001, but it has recently upped its game regarding gluten-free offerings. Now, they offer an entire gluten-free menu, which is remarkably impressive.

From smaller plates to brunch, mains to dessert, the choice is ridiculously good, and anyone with coeliac disease will have little problem choosing a meal, regardless of age.

Our daughter plumped for the pancake stack with fruit and syrup (of course, she did). At the same time, my partner chose the Santorini Salad, a beautifully presented dish with watermelon, feta, mint, olives, cucumber, red onion, tomato, pumpkin seeds and date molasses.

But there's so much more than pancakes and salads. The breakfast and brunch options have always been great at Bill's, and their gluten-free menu is the same, but we always struggled for mains unless our daughter wanted pasta and sometimes pizza.

As a child, that's fine, because that is all she wants, but it did make us worry a little about when she gets older and wants to try different foods.

Bill's nails it. Burgers, curries, and fish pie are all available, while pudding is no longer just ice cream. Instead, triple chocolate brownies and chocolate and hazelnut pots sit proudly alongside their sundaes.

Well played, Bill's. You have quickly become our restaurant of choice.
